Llandudno West Shore is situated on the north Wales coastline, below the Great Orme, and faces west over Conwy Bay. The beach is long and sandy with a stony pebble foreshore, backed by a concrete promenade. At low tide, a large expanse of sand is revealed, making it a popular spot for holidaymakers.
The sea area offshore is designated under the Menai Strait and Conwy Special Area of Conservation, whilst the Great Orme is designated as the Great Orme's Head Special Area of Conservation. The bathing water also lies in the Aber Afon Conwy Site of Special Scientific Interest.
West Shore Beach lies on the south-western side of North Wales’ Llandudno headland and offers lovely views over Conwy Bay and out towards Anglesey. The beach is suitable for ball games and kitesurfing, and its west-facing orientation makes it an ideal spot for watching spectacular sunsets. Cars can be parked along West Parade and in a small car park at the southern end of the road. The beach has a café and toilets, and there is a quiet promenade with additional amenities, including a boating lake and young children’s play area.
Families can stroll along the promenade, enjoy the boating lake and children's play area, or head to the other end of the beach to the West Shore Miniature Railway and the North Wales Golf Club. Swimming is possible when conditions are right, but there are no lifeguards on duty. Dogs are allowed on the beach off-season, but are restricted from 1st May to 30th September, between the two stone groynes.
