Colwyn Bay Rhos Beach is situated on the edge of the three-mile stretch of Colwyn Bay, providing great views along the sweeping coast towards Rhyl and Prestatyn. The beach is a mix of sand and shingle, sheltered by an offshore breakwater that forms a small harbour. The water is clean and relatively safe for bathing, although there is no lifeguard service in operation.
The beach at Rhos-on-Sea is approximately two and a half kilometres long and features a promenade with various facilities, including shops, cafes, and kiosks. The beach is popular with families, who come here in summer to play in the sand and relax by the water. The area is also home to a range of sea birds, and occasionally, seals or dolphins can be spotted in the bay.
Local attractions in the area include Dinosaur World, Eirias park, and the Welsh Mountain zoo. Visitors can also take a stroll along the promenade, enjoy the views of the Rhyl Flats wind farm, and explore the town's facilities. According to Welsh legend, Madog or Madoc ab Owain Gwynedd, a Welsh prince, sailed from Rhos-on-Sea to America in 1170.
The beach is dog-friendly all year round, except for the period between 1st May and 30th September, when dogs are restricted between Rhos Point and the eastern end of the Cayley Promenade.
