Llandudno is an established seaside resort with the North Shore being its principal beach. The beach is sheltered with a long Victorian pier and wide promenade. Situated on the North Wales coastline, the bay faces north east, between the Great Orme and the Little Orme headlands. The beach is long and sandy, with a stony pebble foreshore, which extends over 2 kilometres. A concrete promenade runs the length of the beach to the rear.
The beach is sheltered by two headlands - Great Orme and Little Orme. There are some sandy sections, which are easily accessible via slipway, but it is mainly pebbles towards high tide. The beachfront is home to a wide promenade with a long elegant Victorian pier at the western end of the beach. This traditional resort offers donkey rides, ice creams, live music from the bandstand, and Punch and Judy shows. It’s also possible to hire deckchairs. At the east end of the prom there’s a paddling pool and play area, as well as snack outlets. Opposite the North Parade is the Llandudno Land Train, and it’s also possible to take sea fishing or sightseeing boat trips.
The sea area offshore is designated as the Menai Strait and Conwy Special Area of Conservation, whilst the Great Orme is also designated as a Special Area of Conservation. However, this beach is not suitable for sea bathing due to the presence of rocks covered with algae and jellyfish at certain times of year. Windsurfing and sailing are popular activities on the beach.
There is disabled access to the beach, with cafes, shops, and toilet facilities in town. From 1 May to 30 September, dogs are not allowed anywhere on the main beach or any staircase or slope leading to the beach, and this is strictly enforced.
Llandudno North Shore Beach is adjacent to the Wales Coast Path.
