Penrhyn Bay is a fairly quiet sand and shingle beach, with stone breakwaters at either end. The higher sections of the beach are made up of shingle, whilst it becomes sandier closer to the water, particularly when the tide is out. The beach is well known for its rock pools, which contain an abundance of wildlife, including shrimp.
Between September and January, the beach is sometimes used as a breeding ground for seals. If seals are on the beach, it is essential to respect them and give them a wide berth. Dogs are allowed on the beach at other times.
The beach is backed by a sea wall, with roadside parking available along Glan-Y-Mor Road. Access to the beach is via a short flight of steps. A bicycle and walking path runs along the top of the sea wall, offering excellent views of the beach and the surrounding hilly coastline. Although there are no facilities at the beach, the town of Penrhyn is a short distance away, with shops and places to eat available.
The beach is situated near the town of Penrhyn, which is a great spot for those who enjoy hiking. The surrounding area and countryside are renowned for their stunning scenery. Rhos-on-Sea golf course backs the beach, and a popular coastal path passes close by.
Penrhyn Bay is mainly used by locals and dog walkers. A beach cafe is located opposite the beach, serving breakfasts, lunches, snacks, pancakes, afternoon teas, and coffees.
