Old Colwyn Beach is situated on the edge of Colwyn Bay, a short walk from the town centre and accessible via the A55. The beach offers a local selection of restaurants and cafes, a promenade with benches, refreshment kiosks, and car parking. The promenade behind the beach has both cycling and walking tracks, making it a great destination for those looking to enjoy the outdoors.
The beach is popular for swimming and water sports, with Colwyn Bay watersports club located at the western end of the beach. It is also a dog-friendly section of beach, with dogs allowed on the eastern section throughout the year, whilst they are banned during the summer further westward. A variety of seabirds frequent the area, and occasionally, seals and dolphins can be spotted in the surf. However, it's worth noting that at high tide, the beach is completely submerged.
Parking is available towards the western end of the beach along the promenade, where there is also a kiosk. The beach can be accessed via a slipway or stairs. More facilities can be found in the town centre, a few hundred meters inland.
The Victorian resort town of Colwyn Bay is about half a mile west of the beach and has a railway station and a variety of attractions including the Welsh Mountain Zoo and Dinosaur World. Colwyn Bay has an award-winning beach with three miles of golden sand, great for sunbathing, swimming, or a leisurely walk along the promenade towards Rhos on Sea.
Old Colwyn Beach is adjacent to the Wales Coast Path.
