Pwlldu Bay is a secluded and distinctive sand and shingle rural beach located on the southern coast of the Gower Peninsula in Wales.

Pwlldu Bay, meaning ‘black pool’ in Welsh, is a hidden gem with a sandy area exposed at low tide, and a rocky area further up the beach. The beach is covered in stones and boulders, making it a unique destination for those looking to explore a rural coastline.

The beach is not easily accessible by road, with no direct routes available. However, visitors can walk to the beach along country tracks, such as Pwlldu Lane, which connects the beach to the village of Bishopston. Due to its remoteness, the beach is rarely crowded, but this also means that there are no facilities available. The closest shops and places to eat can be found in Bishopston.

There are several walking routes to reach Pwlldu Bay, including a 1.5-mile walk from Pyle Corner in Bishopston, a 2-3 mile walk from Kittle through the Bishopston Valley, and a 2-mile stroll from Southgate along the cliffs towards High Pennard.

The beach is surrounded by impressive limestone cliffs and features a lovely stream that creates a pool behind the beach, giving it its Welsh name. The bay is popular for bathing and sea canoeing, and the calm waters make it a great spot for kayaking. However, visitors should be cautious near Pwlldu Point due to strong currents.

There are no facilities at the beach, so visitors are advised to bring everything they need with them. The nearest shop is located about a mile away at Pyle Corner. Dogs are welcome on the beach all year round, making it a great destination for pet owners.
