West Cross Beach is situated at the western end of Swansea Bay, which is just minutes away from the heart of Swansea city centre. The beach itself is sandy, and at low tide, the whole of the bay becomes a wide expanse of sand and mudflats. A mixed cycle/pedestrian path runs alongside the beach, providing a scenic route for walkers and cyclists.
Nearby Mumbles Beach offers a mix of coastal scenery, historic landmarks, and a lively village atmosphere. The beach is situated between Swansea Bay beach and Bracelet Bay, at the gateway to the Gower Peninsula. Visitors to Mumbles can enjoy a range of amenities, including restaurants and facilities along the seafront. The historic Mumbles Pier is a must-visit, offering amusements, food, and stunning views across Swansea Bay.
Mumbles Beach itself is a unique destination, with a shingle and rock shoreline at high tide that reveals sandy patches and rock pools as the tide rolls out. The beach is backed by Mumbles Hill Local Nature Reserve, providing a wonderful place to wander through on a sunny afternoon. The iconic Mumbles Lighthouse stands proudly on the outermost point of the headland, offering a fantastic photo opportunity.
The flat promenade lining Mumbles Beach is ideal for pushchairs, scooters, and leisurely strolls, with benches, cafés, and ice cream shops along the way. However, dogs are not allowed on Mumbles Beach between May 1st and September 30th, although they are permitted outside these dates.
West Cross Beach is adjacent to the Wales Coast Path.
