At the southern end of Swansea Bay, Knab Rock Beach lies adjacent to the village of Mumbles. The beach is a mix of sand and shingle, backed by an extensive sea wall, alongside a car park and marina. The car park is popular with sea anglers who cast their lines over the railings above the sea wall, and it is said that you can fish here without leaving your car at high tide.
The beach is home to a Blue Flag Marina and a purpose-built watersports facility, which has a tourist information point, toilets, and changing facilities. This makes it an ideal location for enthusiasts of sailing, jet skis, waterskiing, and fishing. The watersports facility has earned the area a reputation as a Watersports Centre of Excellence.
Mumbles village offers a good selection of pubs and other amenities, including a promenade. Mumbles Pier, built in 1898, is a short walk from the beach and adds to the character of the place. The pier offers amusements, food, and stunning views across Swansea Bay.
The beach itself is not a typical golden stretch, but at high tide, it is mostly shingle and rocks. However, as the tide rolls out, sandy patches and rock pools are revealed, making it a fascinating place for beachcombers and curious kids. The flat promenade lining the beach is ideal for pushchairs, scooters, and leisurely strolls.
Dogs are not allowed on Mumbles Beach between May 1st and September 30th. However, outside these dates, it is open for dog walkers and their four-legged companions to enjoy. The beach from Knapp Rock Car Park to the Pier is backed by Mumbles Hill Local Nature Reserve, a wonderful place to wander through on a sunny afternoon.
Knab Rock Beach is adjacent to the Gower Coast Path and the Wales Coast Path.
