Torbay Crawley Woods Beach is a picturesque sandy bay located in a rural area, approximately 5 miles west of Swansea Bay. The beach is nestled in a secluded cove, flanked by rugged coastal cliffs, and offers breathtaking views. The remote location and relatively difficult access make it an ideal spot for those seeking peace and solitude.
The beach can be accessed via a car park in Penmaen, from which a footpath leads down to the beach. Visitors can also reach the beach by walking through the woods of Nicholaston Burrows or starting from the village near the community hall. Although amenities are limited at the beach itself, nearby Penmaen village provides parking, as well as access to other essential facilities.
The beach is a popular spot for various activities, including surfing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and swimming, due to its gentle waves. The soft sand also makes it an ideal location for sunbathing and relaxation. Furthermore, the Great Tor headland, which separates Tor Bay from Oxwich Bay, offers a unique rock climbing experience for both seasoned climbers and beginners. At low tide, it is possible to walk around to Oxwich Bay.
Torbay Crawley Woods Beach is dog-friendly, allowing pets on the beach all year round, making it an excellent destination for pet owners. Visitors are advised to be aware of strong rip tides along this stretch of the coast.
