Seascale Beach offers miles of sandy beach with views across the sea to the Isle of Man and the Galloway mountains of Scotland. The beach features a combination of sandy areas and shingle, providing ample space for beachgoers. A sea front fort and a new wooden jetty are also present on the beach.
The bathing water at Seascale Beach is a gently sloping, shingle beach giving way to a large, flat sandy area towards the sea. At low tide, a vast expanse of clean sand is revealed, making it ideal for various activities such as swimming, beachcombing, and water sports. The beach stretches for miles, providing plenty of space for visitors to enjoy.
The village of Seascale was a popular tourist destination in Victorian times, with the introduction of the Furness Railway line in the 1850s bringing city dwellers to the area to swim in the sea and enjoy the clean sea air. The area's history dates back to Viking and Roman settlers, with evidence of habitation still present today. Two stone circles can be found close to the beach, although they are located on private land.
Visitors to Seascale Beach can take advantage of free parking at the beachfront car park, as well as a good children's play area, benches, and a picnic area nearby. However, there is no lifeguard service on the beach, so visitors should exercise caution. Dogs are allowed on Seascale beach with no specific restrictions, making it a friendly spot for pet owners. It's worth noting that the proximity of the Sellafield Nuclear Reprocessing plant may be a concern for some visitors.
The beach at Seascale is suitable for swimming and other water sports, and the wooden jetty is popular with anglers. The beach is usually deserted, making it a great spot for water sports, kite flying, and other activities. On clear days, picturesque views of the Isle of Man and the Galloway mountains of Scotland can be enjoyed.
