Workington Beach is situated south of the River Derwent estuary and Workington Harbour, and is made up of both sand and shingle. The beach stretches south from the mouth of the River Derwent and is separated from the town centre by an industrial estate.
The beach is suitable for various recreational activities, including walking, beachcombing, and enjoying the coastal scenery. A coastal path runs close to the beach, and the nearby Siddick Ponds Nature Reserve is of particular interest to birdwatchers. The grasslands, open waters, and reed beds at Siddick Ponds have been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest, providing an excellent habitat for birds, dragonflies, and a variety of butterfly species.
Workington Beach is the starting point for the Sea-to-Sea Cycle Route (C2C), a popular cycling path that extends over the Pennines to Sunderland. The beach is also dog-friendly, with no restrictions on dogs being allowed on the beach, making it a great spot for dog owners to enjoy time outdoors with their pets.
Workington Beach is adjacent to the Cumbria Coastal Way and the England Coast Path.
