Botany Bay in Broadstairs, Kent, is a popular yet secluded sandy bay with breathtaking chalk features, rock pools, and safe bathing, making it an ideal destination for families. .

Botany Bay is the northernmost of seven bays in the popular Kent resort of Broadstairs. This sandy beach is deservedly popular with clean sands and a Blue Flag award for water quality. The bay is very attractive with chalk cliffs, golden sands, and some rock pools. The beach got its name from the common fate of captured smugglers who frequented it, who were then deported in a convict ship to Botany Bay in Australia.

The beach stretches from Foreness Point to Neptune Tower and offers a range of activities, including swimming, sunbathing, fossil hunting, body boarding, and kite-flying. It also has a deck chair rental service. There is an RNLI lifeguard service in high season, and a cafe serving drinks, snacks, and ice creams. However, toilet facilities often have long queues. Parking is available nearby, but it is limited, especially during the summer holidays or sunny weekends.

Botany Bay is ideal for kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding, thanks to its calm waters. The cliffs themselves are fascinating, with part of the North Foreland chalk ridge, and are great for fossil hunting. However, there are seasonal dog restrictions in place, with dogs not allowed on the main part of the beach between 10am and 6pm from 1st May to 30th September.

Nearby coastal walks offer superb views of Botany Bay from the Viking Coastal Trail and Kent Coastline Walk. Visitors can also take the Botany Bay Beach Walking Trail along the cliff top and walk towards Margate.

Broadstairs Botany Bay is adjacent to the Kent Coastline Walk and the Viking Coastal Trail.
