Stone Bay is a small, sandy bay surrounded by chalk cliffs and lined with a promenade. The bay is an excellent spot for rock pooling and discovering local marine life. Access to the beach is available via two sets of steps that lead down the cliffs or by walking along the promenade from Viking Bay. The beach is also famous for being the setting for John Buchan's book 'The 39 Steps', which was later adapted into a film directed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1935.
The beach is backed by a promenade lined with beach huts, which leads into Broadstairs town. Behind the beach are high chalk cliffs that provide shelter from the breeze and a feeling of seclusion. The cliffs cast a shadow over parts of the beach as the sun dips in the late afternoon. It is worth noting that the beach at Stone Bay almost disappears on high tide, so it is essential to check the tide times. The bay has a Blue Flag status, indicating that it has excellent facilities, including disabled access via Broadstairs Harbour.
Stone Bay is located just south of Joss Bay on the Kent coast, near Broadstairs. The bay can be reached from either of two sets of steps down the cliffs or by walking along the promenade from Viking Bay. The East Cliff Promenade starts at the southern side of the bay. Broadstairs Harbour is a short car ride south along the Eastern Esplanade.
The beach is dog-friendly in the winter but has restricted access during the holiday season from 1 May to 30 September.
Broadstairs Stone Bay is adjacent to the Kent Coastline Walk and the Viking Coastal Trail.
