Embo Beach boasts clean sands edged by a belt of dunes, which offer some shelter from the elements. The beach forms part of the stunning Dornoch Firth and is situated next to the famous "Grannies Heilan Hame". Visitors can take advantage of a nearby campsite and free car parking close to the beach.
The beach is a great spot for families and walkers, with its vast expanse of golden sands and scenic views over Ben Bhraggie and the Dornoch Firth. The tall, grassy dunes provide some protection from the winds, while the dunes, mudflats, and beaches of the Dornoch Firth offer a habitat to a wide variety of resident and migratory birds, including terns, geese, and waders, as well as many species of butterfly. In the waters off the beach, dolphins have been spotted. Visitors can explore a series of paths running through the dunes behind the beach and discover rock pools containing interesting animal and plant life.
Finding the access to the beach can be tricky, but visitors can park in the car park in the north-east corner of the former fishing village of Embo and ask a friendly local for directions if necessary. Grannie's Heilan Hame camping and caravan site is close to the beach, offering campers a small heated pool and a range of entertainments and amusements.
Plans by American developers to create a new golf course at Coul Links, to the west of Embo Beach, have aroused opposition from various conservation and community groups.
