St Annes North Beach is a sandy beach with extensive tidal sands, located just south of Blackpool beach and near Blackpool Airport. The beach is backed by 'Pleasure Island', a area with attractive gardens and a boating lake. At low tide, up to 300 metres of clean, golden sand is exposed, making it perfect for building sandcastles and playing beach games.
The beach is used by dog walkers, kite flyers, and families, and in summer, the dunes behind the beach provide day-trippers with a degree of shelter from sea breezes and can be popular with picnickers. The beach is backed by a golf course and a small local nature reserve. A range of facilities, including shops, cafes, and take-aways, can be found in the small town of St Annes, which also features an elegant Victorian pier, a promenade, and a boating lake where pedalos and canoes can be hired.
The Victorian pier, opened in 1885, is a charming landmark that adds a touch of nostalgia to the seaside visit. The colourful St Annes Beach Huts are a fantastic way to enjoy a day by the sea with family and friends. These charming huts come equipped with all the essentials, including a small kitchen and seating.
The beach is partially dog-friendly, but there are some restrictions to keep in mind. From Good Friday until September 30 each year, dogs are not allowed on the main bathing beach. It is also recommended to check the tide times before heading out for a swim or a walk along the shore, as the tides can come in quickly.
Blackpool's Blue Flag South Beach is a short walk to the north, and plane spotters can enjoy watching aircraft take-off and coming in to land at Blackpool Airport.
