Weston-super-Mare Sand Bay is approximately five kilometres wide and backed by sand dunes. The beach features a saltmarsh at its northern end, adjacent to the National Trust headland at Sand Point. Sand Point Headland is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
The beach is relatively wild and offers good views across the Bristol Channel to South Wales. It is a popular spot for dog walkers. Amenities are sparse, with a few local food outlets and a car park available. The beach is situated between Weston Woods and the National Trust headland at Sand Point.
The town of Weston-super-Mare, which became a popular Victorian seaside holiday destination in the 19th Century, is now a well-established seaside resort. It offers a range of entertainment options for the whole family. Notably, Weston has the second-highest tidal range in the world. The town features a wide sandy beach with seafront entertainment, pubs, and restaurants, as well as the famous Weston Donkeys.
Visitors to Weston-super-Mare can enjoy various activities, including a visit to the seaquarium, water sports such as kite surfing, jet skiing, windsurfing, and sailing. The Grand Pier, which was rebuilt after a fire in 2008, is a main attraction with world-class rides and attractions. The beach is dog-friendly during the winter, with summer restrictions in place between Royal Sands and the Grand Pier from 1st May until 30th September.
