Laugharne Beach is situated in the Taff estuary, one of the three estuaries that open out into Carmarthen Bay. The beach forms part of the Taff Estuary and is made up of a long strip of sand mixed with tidal marshes.
The beach is located on the River Tywi, a relatively secluded part of Dyfed. Set across the estuary is the imposing Llansteffan Castle. The beach itself consists of a narrow area of golden sand backed by dunes. In years gone by, the beach would have been a popular place to come to pick cockles, and you can still explore the pools along the shoreline here and search for sea life.
Laugharne Sands is located just east of Pendine, along the Carmarthen Bay coastline in Carmarthenshire, Wales. The beach stretches along to Ginst Point. This is a sandy, unspoilt beach famous for being the last home of Wales's most famous poet and writer, Dylan Thomas. A famous literary location, you can visit the boathouse where the poet spent the last four years of his life.
You can enjoy water sports at Laugharne Sands, like kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and swimming in the calm water. While you might not find equipment rentals directly at the beach, nearby places usually offer rentals and guided tours. Just remember that there are no lifeguards on duty, so be careful and know your swimming skills while having fun.
The Wales Coast Path runs through here, and visitors can visit the medieval remains of Laugharne Castle, which looks out over the Taf estuary. For a weekend away, stay at one of the holiday cottages in the area and take in the local history. Laugharne Sands is dog-friendly all year round.
Laugharne Beach is adjacent to the Wales Coast Path.
