Pembrey Beach is located on the south coast of Wales, in Carmarthen Bay, near the small village of Pembrey. The beach is part of Pembrey Country Park and stretches for approximately 8 miles, edged by a belt of sand dunes along its entire length. Visitors can enjoy clear views across Carmarthen Bay, a Special Protection Area (SPA) and Marine Site, to Tenby and the Gower Peninsula.
The beach is particularly popular for activities such as swimming, watersports, and walking. The extensive flat sandy beach lends itself to a wide variety of pursuits. Pembrey Country Park, which spans over 500 acres, offers many facilities, including walking and mountain biking trails, ponds, a dry ski slope, a toboggan ride, crazy golf, pitch and putt, train rides, an adventure play area, and an equestrian centre. A wetland ecosystem, known as Pembrey Burrows, can be found behind the eastern end of the beach, making it a good destination for bird watchers.
The country park has a large car park from where the beach can be accessed along a path crossing the sand dunes. Public toilets can be found along this path, as well as a cafe. Some further facilities can be found in the village of Pembrey, about a mile away. The nearby town of Burry Port contains a greater selection of shops and places to eat, as well as a railway station.
Aside from walking, golf is also a popular pastime in the area, with a number of clubs close to the beach. The beach is popular for swimming, surfing, and fishing, and is known for its clean water, having received the Blue Flag award. Surf Pembrey on the beachfront offers surfing lessons and equipment rentals. Dogs are restricted from the main section of the beach from May 1 to September 30, but designated dog-friendly areas are available.
The beach is accessible via the National Cycle Network Route 4, which runs along the coastline, making it a great option for cyclists and walkers looking to enjoy the scenic route. Lifeguards are on duty from June 1st to September 30th, making the beach safe for bathing.
