It is enclosed in a small bay lined by steep white chalk cliffs. The beach is predominantly shingle, with sand exposed at low water. It is approximately 500 metres wide and framed by rocky ledges on either side. The beach is backed by a promenade.
St Margaret`s Bay is on the South Foreland Heritage Coast, and adjacent to the Kent Coastline Walk.
