Clacton Martello Tower Beach is a large sandy resort beach with a pier backed by a promenade and overlooked by cliff top gardens. The beach is a popular destination for both tourists and locals, and is known for its beautiful golden sand and gently shelving beach.
The beach offers a range of facilities, including beach huts, a campsite, and a variety of water sports such as kitesurfing and paddleboarding. Visitors can also enjoy swimming, exploring the nearby town, and taking part in a range of sports on land and water. The beach is also dog-friendly outside of the summer months, and on adjacent promenades and cliff paths throughout the year, but dogs must be kept on a lead.
Clacton-on-Sea is the largest and busiest of the Essex Sunshine Coast's resorts, and offers a range of attractions and activities, including a fun-packed pier, beautifully maintained themed seafront gardens, seafront kiosks, two theatres, and pleasure flights. The town centre combines national chain stores with independent shops, and the nearby factory shopping village offers designer labels at bargain prices. A calendar of events, including a free two-day air show, keeps visitors entertained throughout the year.
The beach is named after a small defensive fort known as a ‘Martello Tower’, which dates back to the nineteenth century. The Martello Tower is a historical landmark that adds to the beach's charm and character.
