Jaywick Beach is situated approximately midway between Clacton-on-Sea and Colne Point. The beach is a quiet and sandy stretch that has been extended with the addition of thousands of tons of sand, making access from Clacton easier. The beach is privately owned and features a number of rock breakwaters, including fish-tailed and other rock groynes, which help to keep the imported sand from being washed away.
The beach is located to the east of Jaywick Martello Tower and is surrounded by a small coastal village with large caravan parks to the west. The coastline in this area features a number of Martello towers, small round forts built during the 19th century to defend against attack from across the English Channel.
Facilities at Jaywick Beach are fairly limited, but there is a car park on Tamarisk Way and public toilets can be found at either end of the beach. A narrow, walled promenade runs along the rear of the beach, popular with dog walkers. Visitors can also walk along the promenade from Clacton-on-Sea to Jaywick Beach.
The beach is popular with dog walkers and offers plenty of wide open space. Visitors can explore the Martello Towers on Belsize Avenue and enjoy pet-friendly holiday accommodation nearby. However, signs warn of soft mud and slippery, sharp rocks beyond Lion Point.
