Shoebury East Beach is a long, gently shelving beach with a large tidal range, comprising a mix of sand, shingle, and sharp shells. The beach is backed by a large area of open grassland, which incorporates a children's play area. A slipway allows access for personal watercraft, small boats, and dinghies.
The beach is a popular spot for water sports, particularly windsurfing and kitesurfing, with the Essex Kitesurfing Club based on the beach. A designated water sports zone is in place, and the beach is ideal for crabbing, with a shallow paddling pool. The beach is generally quiet, but can get crowded on bank holidays and hot summer days.
The beach is a five-minute walk from the railway station, with reasonably priced parking available, including disabled parking. Toilets, including disabled facilities, outside showers, and a freshwater tap are also available. Steps from the car park lead to the beach, or a grassy bank slopes gently to the sand. While there is no café on the beach, a mobile snack bar is sometimes available, and the nearby village has a bakery, shops, and a pub.
Please note that BBQs are not allowed on any of Southend's beaches, including Shoebury East. Dogs are not allowed on the beach from May 1 to September 30, but there are no restrictions in the autumn and winter months. If the nearby live firing range is in use, the beach is closed to the public, indicated by lowered or absent yellow diamond flags.
