Shoeburyness Beach is a mainly sandy beach backed by a promenade, lined with numerous beach huts and a large grassy area. The beach is situated at the easternmost tip of Southend's shoreline and features a mix of sand and shingle. A Foreshore Office and Uncle Tom's cafe, which sells snacks and ice cream, are conveniently located on the beach.
The beach offers a range of facilities, including a slipway at the eastern end, which is regularly used for launching boats and other water sport activities. A cycle path runs behind the seafront, linking the East Beach to Shoebury Common Beach and then on to Southend. The beach is also patrolled by a Coast Guard watch tower, which stands guard over the mouth of the River Thames.
Shoeburyness Beach played a significant role in World War II due to its strategic location, and remnants of the coastal defences can still be seen today.
Shoebury Common Beach is a Blue Flag beach, indicating its high standards of water quality, safety, and environmental management. The beach is south-facing and offers a fun day out for all the family. Its location makes it an ideal spot for accessing popular Thorpe Bay, with its shops, bars, cafes, and restaurants.
It's worth noting that dogs are not allowed on Southend's beaches, including Shoeburyness Beach, between 1st May and 30th September.
