Hastings is an established seaside resort with long sand and shingle beaches and plenty of facilities and entertainment. The 300-yard long Pelham Beach is ideal for all-season family fun, with flat stretches of fine sand at low tide and wind-sculpted shingle dunes. The beach is predominantly shingle, with shallow sand flats exposed at low water, and features an outfall pipe from Alexandra Park Stream.
The beach is backed by a promenade with an urban backdrop of Hastings, offering a range of cafes, bars, and restaurants catering to all tastes. Visitors can enjoy swimming, kitesurfing, windsurfing, and stand-up paddleboarding, and rent equipment from local sports rentals. RNLI lifeguards are on duty between July and September, and the beach is patrolled by lifeguards between the red and yellow flags.
Hastings Pier is a focal point of the beach, hosting fun events throughout the year, including family fun days, live music concerts, and festivals. The town of Hastings has a wide selection of cafes, restaurants, and attractions to explore, and visitors can enjoy a bite to eat and wander around the town after a day at the beach.
The beach is dog-friendly, but restricted between the pier and the harbour arm from 1st May to 30th September. However, there are dog-friendly zones further along the beach where dogs can enjoy the sand and sea, especially outside of the peak summer months. Dogs must be on a lead at all times when walking along the promenade.
