Prestatyn Barkby Beach is a long stretch of sand divided by sea defences, with a large tidal range and a gently sloping area from low tide towards the high tide area, which is bordered by a promenade. The beach is located just to the east of Prestatyn's main strip and across the road from the Pontins resort.
The beach is divided up by a series of rocky breakwaters and is backed by a wide promenade. Much of the beach is backed by sand dunes and grassy areas, some of which are set up as picnic areas. The north-westerly aspect of the beach makes it ideal for windsurfing but can leave it a little exposed when there is a breeze.
Visitors can enjoy the seafront promenade to stroll along, or water sports and sailing facilities available locally. The Prestatyn Sailing Club is located at this beach and there is a boat launching slipway. Golfers can play the championship 18 hole course at Prestatyn Golf club overlooking the beach.
This is not a swimming beach but great for fun on the sand. Barkby Beach is dog friendly with some restrictions by the sailing club.
Prestatyn Barkby Beach is adjacent to the Wales Coast Path.
