Thurstaston Beach is situated at the foot of clay cliffs, offering stunning views across the Dee Estuary to Wales and the Clwydian Hills. The beach is a mix of sand and shingle, and is surrounded by the Wirral Country Park, a large area of parkland with woods and picnic areas.
Swimming at Thurstaston Beach is not recommended due to strong and fast-moving tides, as well as the presence of quicksand. Warning signs are in place to advise against swimming, and visitors are instead recommended to visit the nearby West Kirby beach, which has a lifeguard and a tidal bathing pool.
The Wirral Country Park is located behind the beach, offering a cafe, parking, and plenty of walking and picnic areas. The Wirral Way, a 12-mile walking and cycling path, also runs alongside the beach, following the old railway line. Visitors can enjoy a picnic in the sandy dunes, go for a walk or cycle along the Wirral Way, or explore the surrounding area.
Thurstaston Beach is dog-friendly, allowing dogs at all times of the year. The beach is also accessible via the Wirral Country Park, with parking available near the beach and at the Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite. Nearby facilities include Flissy's Coffee Shop, which welcomes dogs in its outdoor seating area.
Thurstaston Beach is located near Heswall in Merseyside, on the Wirral Peninsula. Visitors can follow the signs from the Wirral Country Park and down the steps leading to the sand.
