Leasowe Bay is a wide, clean sandy beach situated adjacent to the North Wirral Coastal Park. The beach is backed by low-lying sand dunes and a hay meadow, giving it a surprisingly wild feel. A wide path runs along the length of the beach, forming part of a longer circular route ideal for walking, cycling, and horse riding.
There are limited facilities available at Leasowe Bay, but car parking is available at The Gunsite, which is also the location of World War II gun emplacements. The beach is suitable for swimming when the tide is in, and dog walking and horse riding are popular activities when the tide is out. However, visitors are advised to exercise caution as the tide comes in very quickly.
Leasowe Bay is surrounded by several local attractions, including two golf clubs, Leasowe and Wallasey, and the historic Leasowe Castle, which was built in the late 1500s and now operates as a hotel. The beach is also home to the Leasowe Lighthouse, the oldest brick-built lighthouse in the UK, which was constructed in 1763 and offers guided tours on specific Sundays from March to November.
RNLI lifeguards are on duty at Leasowe Bay from 29th June to 1st September, providing a safer environment for swimmers. Visitors are advised to be aware of the rapid tide changes and to take necessary precautions.
