Thorney Bay beach is situated on Canvey Island, which is located in the Thames Estuary off the south east coast of Essex. The island is separated from the mainland by a channel. The beach itself is made up of sand and mud and offers views of the Kent coastline.
The beach is a small, sheltered sandy area that faces into the River Thames estuary a few miles upstream from the sea. Behind the beach, there is a large flat grassy area with a play park, making it an ideal spot for families. The sand is particularly good for making sandcastles.
There are several amenities available at Thorney Bay Beach, including a seafront cafe, picnic benches, and a children's playground. The beach is also surrounded by open grassy areas, perfect for picnics. To the eastern side of the beach is the Thorney Bay Caravan Park.
There is a pay and display car park by the beach at the end of Thorney Bay Road leading to Western Esplanade.
