New Brighton Beach is a large, sandy beach with an adjacent promenade, situated north east of Wallasey. The beach is accompanied by the Floral Pavilion Theatre and the Napoleonic Fort Perch Rock. The beach offers an attractive 3/4-mile stretch of golden sand and is a popular destination for day-trippers in the summer months.
The beach provides striking views over the Liverpool city skyline and is a good place to watch ships sailing out from the mouth of the Mersey estuary into the Irish Sea. Nearby attractions include the historic Perch Rock Fort and Perch Rock lighthouse, which are part of the sea-defences system and date back to the 19th century. Children visiting the beach can enjoy playing around the Black Pearl, a community-built driftwood boat.
The seaside resort of New Brighton has been popular since the mid-19th century and now features a £60 million leisure development - Marine Point, with shops, restaurants, theatre, and cinema.
Visitors are advised to stay close to the main beach area, as there have been reports of walkers getting into trouble with mud/quicksand when walking far out on the wet sand at low tide.
At the time of writing, there are no known dog restrictions on the beach, making it a great destination for dog owners.
The beach is situated within the North Wirral Coastal Park, a 4-mile stretch of coast with sand dunes and nature reserves. The beach itself is a 3/4 mile length of flat sand with undisturbed views across Liverpool Bay.
