Broomhill Sands is characterised by its very flat sand and shingle beach, which, combined with a large tidal range, makes it possible for visitors to remain within their depth for a long way out to sea. This feature, along with its expansive space, makes the beach a popular destination for various water sports enthusiasts, including paddlers, windsurfers, kite surfers, and those who enjoy riding sand-buggies.
Located just east of Camber Sands, Broomhill Sands offers a more secluded experience compared to its neighbouring beach. Although facilities are limited, visitors can enjoy ice cream from a van that visits during the summer months. The beach's vast, flat expanse at low tide provides ideal conditions for activities such as sand-buggies and paddling.
Broomhill Sands is renowned as one of the most popular kitesurfing destinations on the coast. The beach hosts the Kitesurf Centre, where both beginners and experienced kite surfers can hire equipment and take lessons.
The eastern end of Broomhill Sands is also known as Jury's Gap, a name believed to have medieval origins, possibly derived from 'Jew's Gate'. Historical records suggest that Jewish merchants from Rye and Winchelsea used this beach to land goods, possibly to avoid paying duties or due to restrictions at nearby ports.
While Camber Sands, located nearby, boasts seven miles of award-winning golden sandy beach, Broomhill Sands offers a distinct experience with its own set of attractions and activities.
